Point of No Return (Turning Point #1)
N.R. Walker
Lover at Last - J.R. Ward It's always hard to review Ward's BDB becuase they're both amazing and frustrating all at once. I was really worried that she was going to do Blay and Qhuinn's story as a novella when they totally deserved a full-length. I think it's pretty brave of her to do a m/m book in the middle of a very popular m/f series, I would think some people discouraged the risk and were worried they would lose some readers. So I was super psyched that they got their own book... that being said, if it had been a novella then we would have gotten the exact same story without Assail, Sola, Trez, iAm, the Lessers, Xcor, etc.

As usual, it's just too much. Layla's stuff was fine because I like her and she was relevant to Blay and Qhuinn's story. Even Xcor's stuff I didn't mind because it was related to Layla and therefor seemed part of the main story line. But Assail and Trez's stuff was completely irrelevant! I get that she needs to set up future story lines, but they didn't have anything to do with anything in this book! I actually was interested in Assail and Sola if they had been their own story... but they weren't! I started reading them, then I switched to skimming for important points, but by the end I straight-up skipped them. When there are 20 pages left and you're hero's haven't gotten together yet and they have a big epic confo... then Assail-holy-shit-I-don't-give-a-fuck-right-now!!!! So yeah.

I guess I'll go back and read those now that I'm done, but I just got sick of it. As usual, it pulls me out of the story. But at least we only had a few Lesser parts.

Now that I've vented, on to Blay and Qhuinn. Hmmm... I won't go so far as to say I was disappointed. But I can only take so much drama and miscommunication. I get that Qhuinn has fucked up until this point and Blay had finally got pushed too far. But while I understand Blay's actions, he was actually the one who was pissing me off lying about Saxton to protect himself, yelling at Qhuinn for not knowing he was gay, pulling away, not believing Qhuinn about Layla, etc and Qhuinn was the break-out star for me, showing growth and maturity. Since it had been building up for so many books, I dunno, to drag it out this whole book... it was a little bit anti-climactic by the end. But the sex was super hot and Ward definitely did them justice in this respect.
